Virtualized platforms using technologies such as VMware® or other virtualization products can be a cost effective alternative to exclusively using physical servers. Using virtual machines (VM) can also improve the resiliency of your IT infrastructure. Navis tests N4 and its components, including the database, on VMware® enterprise virtualization technologies. There are other vendors that provide virtualization products but Navis has not tested them with N4, and therefore they are not recommended. For supported virtualized platforms, see Third-Party Software (on page 1).
Navis will accept service requests for potential issues related to N4 running on VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0 and above from customers who are current on their Navis support contracts. Navis will not require clients to recreate and troubleshoot every issue in a non-VMware environment; however, Navis reserves the right to request clients to reproduce certain issues within the environments specified in this document to help isolate the cause of the problem. If Navis reasonably suspects that an issue is unique to the VMware environment, then Navis may request the client to contact VMware Technical Support directly.
Navis does not certify N4 for operation within hypervisor environments. Navis is not responsible or liable for any performance issues, including performance degradation, downtime, response time failures, or any other issues caused by a client’s use of Navis N4 in a hypervisor environment.
Navis does not recommend using VMware vSphere® Distributed Resource Scheduler™ (DRS), VMware vSphere® High Availability (HA), and VMware vSphere® vMotion® on N4 guests.
Please consult with an experienced and capable vendor to derive the specification for the physical hosts.
